It appears commonplace that after college, today's youth traditionally leaves the area for greener pastures. This was not the case for Rebecca Janerich, owner of Beccaina's Café & Catering. Following her graduation from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, the Dallas native remained in Newport for a few years, but inevitably returned home with a lot of experience and a dream to open her own business.
Since she opened Beccaina's, Rebecca's ultimate goal has been to provide a unique service to the public, both with the catering portion of her business, as well as in the cozy café where she serves breakfast and lunch specials daily. One can't help but notice the freshness of the delicious food she serves up. Even the orange juice is fresh squeezed.
"I am big on homemade and preparing from scratchÐ it makes a big difference," Rebecca said.
Changing the menu often helps to keep everything fresh and new. Beccaina's also features a new hot special, soup and salad everyday, and dinner take-out specials. With a tendency toward healthier alternatives, Rebecca often mixes a variety of fresh-squeezed fruit juices to offer her customers.
"My personal favorite combination is orange, pear, and strawberry," she said. "It's all about the fruit and what's in season locally."
Beccaina's serves Martinez Coffees and Harney & Sons Fine TeasÐ the only restaurant in the area to serve them. In addition, she carries Kona Coffee beans during the holiday season.
"Martinez actually created a dark roast blend especially for me," she said.
In addition to the caé, Beccaina's also specializes in catering for parties as well as take-outs and office lunches. She has also done weddings, showers, small dinners, and even backyard barbeques.
"I cater frequently for hospitals, doctors' offices, home health agencies, and imaging centers," she said.
With the holiday season approaching, Beccaina's will feature side dishes for Thanksgiving and hors d'oeuvres, cookies, gift baskets, and homemade pasta for Christmas. Her specialty pasta is traditional homemade ravioli. Speaking of tradition and ravioli, Rebecca's grandmother greatly influenced her choice for a career.
"Some of the kitchen items I have on display here in the cafe belonged to her," she said. "It's like having her here with me."
Beccaina's opens daily (except Sunday) at 7 a.m., but café hours will vary during the winter months. For more information, visit www.beccainas.com. |
